Rings' Oscar campaign begins

The American backers of The Return of the King are already pushing for it to be nominated for 15 Oscars.

Studio New Line Cinema placed an advertisement in American entertainment magazine Daily Variety on Monday asking Academy Award members to consider the film in 15 Oscar categories.

It included best picture, Peter Jackson for best director, Elijah Wood, Sir Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen and Sean Astin for best supporting actor and Liv Tyler and Miranda Otto for best supporting actress. The other categories were best adapted screenplay, best cinematography, best art direction, best original score, best original song, best sound mixing, best sound editing, best make-up, best costume design and best visual effects.
